Over a decade ago, the Rab Microlight Jacket seamlessly entered the lives of hikers, mountaineers and climbers. The jacket was instantly embraced for its versatility, warmth and fit, quickly becoming an icon in the outdoor industry. The famous jacket was initially designed as a classic layering piece for alpine climbers, but since then the Microlight Alpine has entered territories in skiing, climbing, fishing and more.
10 Years On is a celebration of Rab’s Microlight. Changes may appear subtle, but a decade of natural evolution has led to refinements and tweaks in a bid for perfection. This year, the Microlight has been deconstructed and put back together again; every single detail of the Microlight has been scrutinised and honed. Alongside this, Rab have also introduced the Microlight Summit; inspired by the original jacket, it combines the classic style with innovative new developments.
This jacket has been built to offer essential warmth even high in the mountains. The innovative new Pertex® Quantum Infinity Weave™ ∞ fabric removes any need for glue, heat and stitching when constructing each baffle, allowing for extra warmth and increased weather protection. The result is a lightweight design with a practical pack size. Each baffle is filled with Rab’s premium 750FP ethically-sourced Nikwax hydrophobic down, allowing it to compress to next to nothing, and easily loft again when needed.
The Summit can be worn as a protective out layer, or warm midlayer in particularly cold conditions, making it extremely versatile and robust for alpine environments. Stretch nylon cuffs make transitions quick, sleeves fitting over or under gloves. The jacket is slightly longer than the original Microlights, trapping extra heat, while the insulated zip baffle and a chin guard also maximises warmth when belaying. The hand pockets are harness compatible, and the helmet compatible hood features an internal stretch gaiter, creating an extremely versatile jacket.
The true icon that inspired it all. Rab have continued to refine and improve the jacket and have crafted it in in a wide range of styles and colours. The Pertex® Quantum fabric is filled with premium 750FP ethically-sourced Nikwax hydrophobic down for exceptional warmth and protection that doesn’t compromise on packing. Compress this down into the tiny stuff sack that can be attached to a harness or stashed in your backpack, and quickly wear it again due to the fast lofting abilities. Harness compatible hand pockets, an adjustable hood with laminated brim and polymer peak and an accessible chest pocket all combine for a versatile and practical jacket built for alpine environments.
