The popular Montane Extreme Smock Mens Jacket has been tested on the most unforgiving conditions by mountaineers and climbers alike over the past twenty years. This single-layer outerwear garment merges the Montane trademark lightweight fabrics and technologies to keep you warm even in below freezing temperatures. A PERTEX shell provides protection from wind while being breathable and fast drying while a DRYACTIV 3000 liner keeps an insulated, warm internal climate and is also vented to properly regulate body temperature for greater effect.
As with any Montane garment the Montane Extreme Smock Mens Jacket is packed with numerous features to make things easier such as hand-warmer pockets, articulated arms for greater range of movement, an adjustable helmet compatible lined hood and much more all in one impressive jacket.
Garments with an Adjustable Hood feature draw cords with toggles or other adjustment mechanisms, to change the size and shape of the hood to better fit the head of the wearer. Such hoods usually adjust independently around the head, and around the face, for a snug fit and optimum weather protection.
Articulated: products which have articulated sleeves or knees simply mean that the construction of a joint has been manufactured to fit the natural ergonomics of your body therefore increasing the range of movement and flexibility.
Quick Drying Items use fabrics which are known for their quick drying properties ideal for travel towels, walking trousers, climbing pants and outdoor equipment.
Based on the original Pertex fabric, Pertex Classic remains the benchmark for durable yet lightweight shell fabrics. It provides excellent weather protection with a highly water repellent finish and windproof construction.
Hand Warmer Pockets - These are normally in the form of a soft to touch, warmer fabric that keep your hands warm when you aren't wearing gloves or mitts.
Breathable fabric allows air to circulate, which helps regulate body temperature.
Water Resistant - This product has good resistance to the penetration of water.
Windproof - these fabrics are great for keeping you warm. They work by weaving the fabric very tightly, so that the gaps between the threads are too small for air to pass through at speed.

Very pleased with the Montane Extreme Smock. I have the previous incarnation which I wore to death and it ended up being used fo work. As I'm a builder it's no longer presentable, even for a deserted moorland ,so it had to be replaced. The new version is a step up in terms of quality of materials and a slightly modified design. I wear it slightly large, more as a jacket than a shirt, but it still allows me good movement without feeling bulky. I'll try to resist the temptation to wear this one to work!

This product is amazing quality. I'm normally a buffalo or softie jacket guy but this blows them all out of the water. I wore this during the recent cold weather spell and with just a T-shirt on underneath I was really warm.

My husband already has this montane smock and rates it highly so I decided to purchase this one for my son. It was a Christmas purchase, however decided to give him it early (tut, tut) and he loves it. Good quality, sizing as advertised, great price, and keeps you feeling snug as a bug in the bone chilling weather we can get here in the UK. Would highly recommed this item to anyone looking for warm outer clothing.

Excellent smock, will try out over winter in some extreme weather but as I live in the Cairngorms my initial test in some nasty weather was great, I am a professional Photographer and have to stand around in the cold quite a lot and was impressed with the Smock.

Manufacturers Review:
Amazing performance in nasty conditions.FIVE STARS
I wore the Extreme Smock everyday on a 10 day ice climbing trip in the Alps this February. I wore it over the top of a merino wool base layer and was fine for climbing and belaying like this on all but the coldest day. The massive amounts of ventilation helped a lot on the walk ins and meant that I could wear the jacket instead of stuffing it in my sac saving space. The velcro waist adjustment helped me a lot, being 6'2" with long arms a 32" waist I find it hard to get clothes which are long enough without having too much volume. The velcro adjustment stopped the wind from getting inside and cooling me down which happens a lot with other garments. The outer shell worked very well and defended me from dripping icicle and bitter cold wind, the tougher patches on the elbows are very beneficial. The hood was very cozy , fitted amazingly over my climbing helmet and was amazing at boosting the smocks heat retention. What impressed me the most about this garment was how well it dealt with getting wet. During a climb a large block of ice fell into the pool above my pitch and sent a surge of icey cold water down my pitch. After hanging on for a minute I down climbed and was lowered into the sun. My baselayer was soaked and very cold however the pile lining of the Montane Extreme smock was completely dry! I removed the cold and wet baselayer and wore the smock next to my skin. We then continued up the next four pitches! If only my gloves could have dried up like the smock did. Here is a video after I had lowered off if you need any proof! https://vimeo.com/62621082 After hanging above a radiator the smock was ready to be worn again the next day. I was very glad that I was wearing this instead of a primaloft/softshell and doubt I would have been able to finish the remaining pitches without it. I can't believe pile fleece is not more popular! The only downsides would be the weight of the jacket (which is somewhat offset by the ability to wear it all day) and the front pouch pocket which bulges out and restricts visibility of feet and harness when the pocket contains something (spare gloves, hat). I did like the amazing handwarmer capability of the belly pocket though. Personally I would prefer the hood to be permanently attached but can see the benefits of the removable option. I would highly recommend that anyone going out into the hills in the UK or abroad to try the Extreme smock.
